Week of 4/9-4/15

So it's been a little over a month since the LA Marathon, i.e. my last real run. I'm still dealing with a bum foot but I can tell it's been getting a little bit better with each passing day. That still doesn't rule out a stress reaction/fracture however and a recent trip to my sports med doc seems to confirm it. I'm due to get an MRI this week followed by a follow up visit with my doc after which we'll know the full extent of the injury and its placement.

I can tell it's not as serious as the cuboid stress fracture I had a couple of years ago and since I've been going a little nuts by the lack of physical activity, against better judgment I've been allowing myself to do some hiking and recently, started incorporated a little barefoot running in the soft sands of the beach.

Pulling a Patrick Sweeney.
(I'm a little behind but eff it, so what. This is mainly for me anyway.)

Week 4/9-4/15

Monday: 2 mi, 26 mins in Santa Monica Beach.

1st real distance on the soft sands (period for that matter). Man I got out of shape in a hurry. Still good to get the HR up and sweat a little. Had to stop and walk a bit w/ about a 1/4 to go but ran the rest of the way. Tweaked lower back due to bad form/weak core. 'Iced' in Pacific 5-10 mins after.

Tuesday: 0.5 mi, Treadmill

Wanted to test foot. Started feeling it so stopped at half a mile. Still a ways to go.

Wednesday: 2 mi, 23 mins in Hermosa Beach

Sand a little more hard-packed due to rain. Foot sore early on (~1/4 mi in) likely due to yesterday's treadmill run. Last 1/4 mi however was pure bliss. Reluctant to stop but foot wasn't having it. Iced foot in Pacific for 10 mins post.

Thursday: 2 mi walk w/ JB in Manhattan Beach

Short walk due to time constraints.

Friday: Nada

Saturday: Still nada. (busy week)

Sunday: 10 mi hike in Torrey Pines w/ JB

Man what a beautiful place. Did almost a 10 mile hike w/ JB exploring the various beachside trails of Torrey Pines State Park. Lots of people out. Foot felt a little sore ~10K mark but never got too bad. Even allowed myself a brief run up one of the trails.

Geeks in mini packs.
Week's Totals = you do the math. Or have your 2-year old do it. Easy enough.

Look, when you're sidelined with an injury like this, any bit of distance is a win. While I probably should be sitting on my bum and sucking the udders of a cow all day long, you know that's a tall order.

Anyway, follow up with my sports doc is this Friday. Will update something after that. Thanks for reading my pathetic little blog post.
