your videos SLAY me. I don't know why but I was laughing so hard and then comes out the bastards at the end and I was going to lose it. I told you they are mean. Bicyclists would reply to this video and say, "we are working so hard at not bumping the person in front of us and staying on, blah blah blah" I call BS! Maybe you shouldn't ride so DAMN close then! ha ha, sprint to the finish instead of drafting off of everyone. Hilarious. Thanks for capturing this moment for me.
LOL! Was that brentwood? Those dudes were haulin! Like I just said on ChicRunner's blog, I think there are definitely some hardcore roadies who are pretty intense. I've always been a "waver" on the ride and on the run. I've found that it's about 50/50 on either that I get the good ol "wave back." :)
That video is hilarious! You have to love random funny cyclist stories. Thanks for all your advice and encouragement! I am definitely going to baby my leg as much as possible. I didn't expect to be training so soon after SF. Which course is the fastest in the west?
@ Lindsey - I think most would agree that CIM (Sacramento) is among the fastest, if not the fastest. But scenery's definitely lacking (unless roadkill's your thing).
There's also Tucson around the same time. And hopefully, the new and improved LA Marathon course will be fast too!
haha. even if they are so 'serious' they still do this when they are out on a freakin' training ride. even the fatties busting out of their biking shirts!
As a "serious" cyclist myself, I can explain why this happens with bike groups that are moving fast.
These fast groups are usually going 20+,if not 25+mph. The cyclists are drafting as much as possible, so they are less than 18 inches (sometimes <12) apart. Imagine driving your car at 25mph with a 12 inch gap behind the next one. Do this for hours, at the limit of your ability. It takes intense concentration, and both hands on the bars at all times. When I've been on such hammerfest rides, they're an incredible rush and great workout, but there is NO time to even wave or smile - if the guy in front of you slows for even half a second and you miss it, you'll take down not only yourself, but the 10 guys behind you, at high speed.
On my own, I'm MUCH better about smiling & nodding, even when hauling at 25+mph. Way different from the fast pack you see in your video - that's total concentration!

Holy Mackerel! That is too funny! I have also encountered this here in Arizona. Not so much with mountain bikers but other cyclists, yes.
