I finished off this past week with the highest mileage total in some time at 42+ miles. Kind of dumb in retrospect since I have a marathon coming up next weekend, but whatever...we're not talking serious mileage here. Besides, they were easy paced runs for the most part.
Now the bad news...my left foot started acting up again. Different this time too, instead of a sporadic and sharp, acute pain in the midfoot area, now it's more of a generalized pain that makes it feel swollen and tender with each footstrike. And yes - plane tickets and accommodations for San Francisco for next weekend have all been bought and set. Motherfucker.
My hunch has oscillated from a potential stress fracture, to something called peroneal tendinitis, and now to who-the-hell-knows. All of this is making me seriously contemplate taking a full month off of running after San Francisco next weekend.
For now, the game plan for the last week leading up to it is just to take it easy, R.I.C.E. the hell out of it, and hope for the best come Sunday. Worst case scenario, I can just drop to the half if it becomes unbearable. Anywho, on to the summary of the past week:
Monday - Boxing Class PM
Tuesday - 6 miles AM, 7 miles PM
Wednesday - 8+ miles AM
Thursday - off
Friday - 7+ (HOT) miles on trails
Saturday - 6 miles PM (pain started up again)
Sunday - 8+ miles on trails (mostly hiked it due to pain)
Mostly junk miles. Someone get this boy a cortisone shot. Or a new left foot.

Wow - boxing? You sure there's no hockey in you? Your foot will be fine...
Oh! And HUGE congrats on your....301st....post...
ballerina shoes, heh? That's an interesting mental picture.
Hey, I going to SF too. I'm running the first half. I'll keep my eyes open for you.
Geesh. You missed the scoop on 300. And it WOULD be funny to see you running trails in ballerina shoes :)
Good luck next weekend and get better!!
Sorry about the Moeben knock. I met the owner at Badwater and she was super cool and I understand the function of them.
Also NB790S are sweet. There is a store in Thousand Oaks next to the Gold Gym that has them on sale for $44 dollars. I loaded up last time I was down there. The sure what the store name is but if you are in the area you should check it out.
I will be down there in a couple of weeks. I will give you a shout.
I'm sorry your foot is acting up! that sucks but I have SO BEEN THERE! I ran in pain for YEARS! tendon and ligament issues in my foot. Finally after seeing numerous professionals, started getting prolotheraphy on my foot...voila-pain free!!! best thing I ever did! I strengthens tendons and ligaments. Got a great doc in Santa Monica if you are interested....
Take care of that foot this week. I hope all goes well in SF. Congrats on the 301 post too!
Hmmm, a ballerina. Interesting, B.
Sorry to hear about the foot! I hope that RICE will help in the interim and that you're able to put in the miles next weekend. Of course, there could be worse places to have to spend a weekend than SF!
Take it easy and take care of that foot!
Congrats on #301!
I used to dance ballet, so the image of ballet shoes with traction on the trails made me laugh. I had this mental image of this dainty ballerina in sneakers running all hard core down the forest. Haha.
Good luck in San Fran; I hope your foot holds up for the full marathon. I'll be cheering for ya!
Take it really easy this week and all should be well. And congrats on 301 and counting! You've maintained an admirably high level of writing excellence, 'entertainment' value (i.e. good stuff), and great pics. Keep it up and we will keep on coming back.
mothafucka. Lame about the foot! But that means that perhaps we can run the first half together on sunday!!! YAYAYA! Those are intense shoes btw. you crazy trail runner you. see you soon!
ekkk sorry about your foot :( but like you said you can always just come with danica and myself to the half if its awful. very excited to meet you!!!! i am meeting up with danica at the start and she said you are in wave 2 also... we should all start together!
hope the foot starts feeling better and definitely do lots of RICE-ing.
Feel better!
It was last year at SFM that I actually followed a runner via the web...you!
Good luck again!!
i hate the shoe 'changes' when they are usually just shifting the seam 2mm to the left and making the shoe red instead of blue.
sorry to hear 'bout lefty. hope he can pull it together for a strong showing in san fran - half or full, either way. take it easy this week, and next.
congrats on #301! what, no giveaway? sheesh. :)
Hang tough, hopefully these will be you Cinderella shoe as it were...let me know if you need me to pick any up per Alaskan Assasin's comment; I know we're out in the boonies here!
I ran trails in those shoes for awhile, but the soles are thin as hell. Be careful when running on very rocky terrain. I also screwed my ankle up running in those because they are so lightweight. Just an FYI. Run careful in those.
Shitballs about your foot. Treat it right and you'll be good as new soon. Good luck in SF!
