'8' For Effort

8 = magic number.

That is the pace that I'm hoping to run in San Francisco come July 26th. Coincidentally, that will also be my 8th marathon in my 2+ year running career. But before my 8th marathon, #7 (the LA Marathon) looms this Monday, so I'll have to scale back on my training for San Fran somewhat.

Today, 8 miles was on schedule plus 10 x 100m. Settled for 7 miles @ 8:11 as my 'scale back' workout, (+ 5 x 100m). Threw in some minor hills as part of my SF training including a 15 second hill sprint towards the end. Finished with a .5 mile barefoot run when I got home to make it 7.5 miles total for the morning.

Happy with this workout. Need to keep it going and get back on track. So to speak.

Hi Billy! How's the barefootin' coming? Are you putting any into your training right now?

@ Coyote Girl - I'm at .5 miles of either barefoot/Vibram runs for this week. May ramp that up by a 1/4 mile for next week.

Very much enjoying it! Btw, what's your URL again? lost it and your profile is 'unavailable'.

Good stuff dude. Except the barefoot running that is :)

Have fun at the LA marathon. Hopefully the effort will be low-key enough that you can take it easy for the following week and then really dial in the training for SF.

I'm still looking at the SF half. If I do run I may change to the second half. I've heard it is a bit more forgiving.

Billy, your training seems to be going well. You've inspired me to go out and get a pair of Vibram KSO's as well, have gone for a couple of short runs with them & they are great for general working out. I like them a lot so far.

just consider la an early 20(+) mile training run :)

i'm still considering sfm now that i'm not heading to saudi arabia... though i should probably look into all the travel costs and not just whine about the $$ race fee.

i'm using daniels' for nyc, and of course i have goals. i just haven't quite figured them/it out yet. i could throw out a 2:45 but let's be real here... maybe if i had an extra week or two.

You are definitely capable of running an 8 mm pace. I can't believe you have almost run 8 marathon in 2 years! Way to stay motivated to run all those.

Best of luck this weekend. I haven't been paying attention to the weather, but I hope that it will be little cooler than it has been these past few days. I'm sure you'll be fine, but all those TnT folks....

I'll be waiting for a race report!

I also read that article on shoes. I wear custom orthotics plus stability shoes and still have niggling injuries. Food for thought.

Good luck with SFM training! That's my next marathon and I'm looking forward to it! Planning on sticking with Julianne's pace group.
