Yes, I succumbed to something I swore I would not do after a multitude of date changes and the city council/organization's constant jerking around of the good people who wanted to support it - I signed up for the LA Marathon.
Yesterday was the last day to sign up before prices went up to $125 (from $95) and although vastly undertrained, my 22-year old cousin vowed to train in the remaining month and a half to run it (his first). So...there I'll be, back on pacing duties to run my hometown marathon for 3 years in a row. I am the 'LA Runner' after all. Cheesy, I know.
Oh, and I was told I had to do this to gain better chances of winning a $100 Gift Certificate to Online Shoes. So there ya go Danica. Hook a brotha up.

yes you ARE the LA runner :) you have to do it!! thats awesome of you to pace your cousin - how fun!
I ran the L.A. marathon last year and almost died of heat stroke. I was in town for the weekend and signed up on a whim. I was acclimated to Alaska cold and nearly died on the course.
Cool marathon though.
see you this weekend. be ready.
You are always there for your friends and family. I am sure you guys are going to have lots of fun.
Very nice of you to join up so you can pace your cousin! But I personally hate their choice of dates! I've run the race when it was in March and it was hot-what the hell will it be like around memorial day! I think it was a poor choice...but I'm thrilled you're running it!
What's your cuz's email? Let's all email him and get his ass in gear! ;)
Ok then. Looks like I might have to come down and volunteer. I can't believe you're running it!
We'll pray for typical June Gloom, so it's nice and cool!!!
i may be doing something i said i'd never do again too... still (partly) up in the air.
hopefully it'll be fun and of course you will do a killer job of pacing again!
Awwwhhh there's nothing like a home marathon! Although now that I just read Evan's comment I doubt I would EVER want to do it (you know being from the poop North and all LOL)
well, since you are the LA Runner you kind of have to do it, right? lol it will be a blast to pace your cousin in his 1st marathon! i wish him happy and healthy training :)
sorry to bust your chops burger, but because of this post, you need to update your 2009 upcoming races ;)
YAY!
I'm so jealous! If it wasn't a week before SD I'd sign up too!
At what pace are you guys planning on running this sucker?
How does the L.A. Marathon compare to the other ones you've run? It's on my list of marathons to run. Too bad it's a week before San Diego this year!
@ ilovesteaks - I have NO idea. But given his lack of training combined with the heat, I'd be surprised if we broke 7 hours. No, but seriously - I think bringing him across the line in under 5 hours is realistic.
@ Joe - while I ran LA the past couple of years, this is a new course with a new organization. I'll be sure to put out a full report upon completion.
