A race shirt? That's it? For a race I won't be participating in? Is that the best you can do San Diego??
This ain't over yet. Not yet. The fat lady has yet to sing. Well...since the inauguration anyway.

Another off day from running. That's 2 days in a row now since my last failed run. I did however, go on a 30 mile bike ride this afternoon down the coast and back.

Doesn't change the fact that I'm still a morbidly obese schlub who's kidding himself if he thinks he can PR in this Sunday's marathon when he's 10 pounds above his ideal running weight.
But I'm funny that way. I have this strange confidence in myself that's completely unwarranted or justifiable, that some how and some way...it'll all magically come together this Sunday.
Ok, it's clearly time for me to put down this bong. Off to get some munchies.

Sorry about San Diego. That's pretty lame...BUT...at least you got a response I bet in some races you wouldn't even get that much!
I'm not even going to comment your paragraph after you state that you just went on a 30 mile bike ride.
You'll do great on Sunday! A little training flubs happen to everyone. Have fun and know that there is always another marathon waiting for a PR.
That sucks about San Diego. They also need to get a better shirt for the amount that we pay for that race. So when are you going to start swimming? As for Surf City, leave it all on the course!!!
I think all I can say is I think you will run a great race on sunday!!!
Bleh, I'm sorry about San Diego. How annoying.
I still have to contact San Francisco to get my shirt size changed to men's because i realized I'm too fat to fit into the largest women's size. Ha!
I know you will do awesome on Sunday.
"morbidly obese schlub"?
and i thought _i_ had self-image problems ... ;)
well, it was worth a shot... or not! But it's going to be one expensive t-shirt that you wouldn't want to wear. I mean who wants to wear a shirt for a race that you didn't run in? Anyways I think you should give out the bib. That person can run unchipped so the results won't be screwed up.
As an RD, I can speak from personal experience that I got railed for not giving blanket refunds when I had to postpone Twin Peaks because of fire. This time when I canceled I issued refunds even though it may put me in the hole. It's a difficult decision and for a small 150 person race I already get lots of "transfer, cancels, refund requests, etc." I can't imagine how many of those types of request a big race must get. Anyway.. It's a fine line. But I do think Marathon's are VERY expensive and the shirts usually suck and are often cotton. They could at least give out better ones I agree.
I couldn't run the Twin Cities Marathon and they wouldn't even get me a shirt even though I paid for it.
@ Jessica (and everyone else) - this post was mostly in jest *see bong comment..
I know I screwed up the dates but it's been difficult to stomach the almost $100 I shelled out for this race (grrrr). I know the end outcome is that I'll have to man up and eat the money. I was hoping for at least partial credit for next year's race. Couldn't hurt to ask I suppose.
Anyway, I do respect the thankless job that comes from being a RD (especially in the smaller races). I acknowledged the agreement, made my bed and I'll just have to learn to lie in it now.
This post freaken cracked me up! Sorry about SD it does blow forking out the money, but hey at least you can get a $100 race shirt!!! lol Good job on the bike ride and although you're supposedly a "morbidly obese schlub" you will kick ass come Sunday! :)
yeah that $100 still sucks though. I paid $150 for a 100M race once that I couldn't run because of injury. They actually gave me 100% of my money back. that was unexpected and pretty cool. I thought I'd ask but didn't expect much. A nice surprise :)
GAH!! Totally stinky about the no refunds, no transfers. Isn't that the norm nowadays with the big races? (not saying that it's right. BOO!)
But you'll do KILLER on Sunday! ;D ;D
Sorry to hear about not being able to get a refund. Having confidence can carry you a long way. I bet you are going to run really well this weekend.
ha ha this post is hilarious, just like you... also, i will buy your bib ha ha i haven't signed up yet! i know it says untransferable.. but would they really know?
Of course the SD thing isn't over because now you are just gonna have to run the thing and come hang out with all of us. :D right? RIGHT?
'Morbidly obese' is the most hysterical joke I've heard all day!
You are going to kick ass this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck this weekend!
Wow, Fresno transferred my race entry to this year's marathon because I was injured with PF. I'm not planning on running it if I can do the Big Sur. If not, you want it?
San Diego. You should let them know how Friendly Fresno is.
hey fatty, at least you tried. sucks that they aren't willing to work with you at all but i suppose if a big race gives in to one person... they'd have to give in to everyone. blah blah blah.
i had a similar feeling of confidence before i ran atlanta (my bq), so here's hoping yours works the same as mine!
just kidding about the fat part.
You have a bike! WOW you kept that Top Secret!
Sucks about SD!
