Long Run Sunday: An 'F'..

..as in 'DNF', as in 'Fail' and - 'Fuck running'!

Yeah, it was pretty bad.

Reminiscent of this run leading up to CIM. It was ardous from the onset, legs felt dead, never really found my rhythm and heart rate was through the roof, even at easy paces (8:45-9). Had 12 miles on schedule, turned around dejected and defeated before I hit mile 5. Tail between my legs, I walked/jogged back the remaining miles home.

Yeah, it was a little gusty and I'm almost recovered from a cold...but wow. It shouldn't be this hard, should it?

I'd be worried but that ain't gonna get me anywhere. I'm just gonna chalk it up to a bad 2-3 days of running and just cross my fingers that the legs/lungs find their way back to game shape for next Sunday (Surf City).

On the plus side, congrats to all my Runner's World homies for fantastic races at Carlsbad today!

We all have days like that. Forget about it, get a good night's rest and get ready to start a new day tomorrow.

After forcing myself through some pretty dark runs last week, I finally had enough on Friday and earned my F too! It happens - and it's actually a good thing. Your body's telling you it's on overload and you're smart enough to listen before more serious damange can be done.

Well...my pre-marathon run was awful too, turned around early and walked a lot of it. BUT I still managed to complete the full marathon and PR (by 5 minutes BUT a PR is a PR).

You'll be ready for Surf City...just think positively!

Oh no! I'm so sorry. I know exactly how you feel - that was me yesterday.

I know you are more than ready for Surf City, though. I believe in you!

Sorry you didn't have such a great run! But it sounds like your body need a little bit of break! Rest up and you'll totally kick ass at SurfCity!

Don't worry about the run. We all have crappy runs. It is no reflection of how next weekend will go.

Yep, we all have been there but I"m still sorry you had to go through that. Don't let it get in your head- remind yourself of all of your awesome runs! You are a strong runner and just had a bad day. Think of this- you got it out of your system so you can have a great race next weekend! :)

I HATE THOSE RUNS!!!! They are the worst! But, you're going to be amped for this weekend and kill it out there with Sara. :) Sometimes they just need to happen so that you get over it and feel great again.

umm. you did just run a marathon my friend. it may not have been at a hard pace for you but it was still hard on your body. chalk it up to recovery, and at least you are getting the funk out now so you'll be set to go at surf city.

Hang on in there bud, you'll be dropping As pretty soon, we all have bum runs

Your "DNF" is clearly explained by your recent marathon. 12 miles after even an "easy" marathon will be HARD - I wouldn't even recommend it, after what I've gone through. Take it on the easier side - your fitness will stay put while giving your cartilage/joints time to recover from the last marathon. Good luck!

In more than 35 years of running let me tell you I've had many many days like that, usually combination of recent hard run (as in a marathon in Texas the other day...?), not enough rest, incipient cold or something, who knows. There will be many more excellent ones!
