2009 Race Schedule + Goals

Ok, so it's a new year and a new slate. I am entering year 2 of running competitively and thus far, pretty pleased with the strides and progress I've made. I've PR'd in each marathon I've run in:

Mar 2007 - 4:58 (LA Marathon)
Mar 2008 - 4:20 (LA Marathon)
May 2008 - 4:04 (SD RnR Marathon)
Aug 2008 - 3:53 (SF Marathon)
Dec 2008 - 3:45 (CIM)

Now this streak of PRs will come to an end for Houston obviously, but I'm more than ok with that. I'll just focus on improving on my 3:45:XX for Surf City.

By year's end, my goal for the marathon will be a sub-3:30, a sub-1:35 half-marathon and a sub-43:30 10K. Ambitious for me, but certainly doable.

Here is my preliminary race schedule for the upcoming year:

1/18 - Houston Marathon (as pacer for friend to a sub-4:30 time)
2/1 - Surf City Marathon (goal: sub-3:40)
2/28 - Twin Peaks Ultra (the 50K...my first ultra!)
3/8 - Pacific Coast Trail Runs, Malibu Creek (volunteer?)
3/22 - Pasadena Half-Marathon
3/29 - Pacific Coast Trail Runs, Sycamore Canyon
5/9 - Santa Barbara Wine Country Half-Marathon
5/31 - San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon
7/26 - SF Marathon
12/? - Santa Barbara Marathon

I'll probably make a few tweaks here and there but this is how it's playing out thus far. Wouldn't mind traveling out of state to run a race too.

Anyway, here's to a very successful new year to all of us - both in life and in running!

Hey Billy, much success to you too. Ever ran a 15k? Jacksonville, FL has a nice route here. I see you are up for traveling. The event is March 14. The weather is great out here that time of the year. Your times qualifies you to be a seeded runner too. Checkout the details

You cut over an hour in 1 year. That is amazing. Great job. 2009 looks busy. An ultra...you rock. I can't wait to read about all your training and of course the races. You train hard, so I have no doubt you will reach all your goals.

You had an amazing year. Good luck to you too! Sounds like a great plan.

Doesn't it make you feel POWERFUL to commit to a schedule!?

Nice schedule...WOW! I'm running the SF Half...or at least i've paid to run it now it will depend on my crappy work schedule!

Thanks for the info Pamela Ann, but don't think I'd travel for anything less than a marathon!

Did you mean 3:30 for Houston or 4:30?
I am running my first marathon this year with goal of 3:30. We will see how it goes, :-)

Neeraj - as I mentioned, I'm going to Houston to: a) show our running movie at the expo, and b) pace my friend to a sub-4:30 time.

Are you running Houston too? If so, come by and say hello at the expo!

Nice schedule, Billy. I may run into you a time or two - Twin Peaks (volunteer) and Wine Country Half.

Rock on in 2009!

Look at you MR. planner. I think you should throw in some pace chic runner runs and then pace chic runner to 3:40. THANKS! :) ha ha, you will rock 09

oh come on you gotta get out of ca to run! no desire to chase after the 50-states-status? :) when you get your sub-3:30 you're gonna have to travel and come pace me. sounds like quite the busy schedule - are you training for one race in particular for a goal time and just running the others on the way there? i'm trying to figure out what i'm gonna do in that sense this year. good luck in all these races and i hope to hear about a 3:30 soon :)

@ Chic - until I hit a sub-3:40 time myself, there's no way I'm qualified to pace anyone trying to hit the same!

@ Lindsay - you're right, I need to start hitting other states soon. For now, I'll blame it on the economy for not traveling more. I'm sort of targeting the SD RnR Marathon as far as the next race that I'm willing to jump into my next training cycle for. We'll see...all these races I wanna do might get in the way though. Good luck to you on your half/full marathon race weekend...you nut!!

psh please. 'couch surf' and mooch off these fellow bloggers! :) jk i can certainly understand the extra squeeze on the wallet. races are already pricey enough by themselves. thanks for all the luck lately!
