Beach Run

So yesterday's 12+ miler turned into a 10. With temperatures in the 80's for most of the day, I didn't head to the beach until 5pm when the sun wouldn't quite beat down on us as hard.

'J-Man', who's a 7-year old kid I've been mentoring for the past couple of years, gamely rode along side me on the bike path for the entirety of my run. We started off at the Santa Monica Pier and started south toward Venice Beach. Once we hit the 3-mile mark, we headed back up north past the pier and up to Will Rogers Beach.

While I wanted to keep going on for at least a couple of miles more (we were at mile 8 by this point), I knew the kid was getting worn out. God bless him for lasting this long. While riding your bike at the beach can be fun, the novelty can wear out after awhile I'm sure.

When we got back, the sun had just set and while a bit sore, I felt pretty good.

Pace was slightly under 9 min/mi (my goal marathon pace) and it just felt good to get out for a longish run again after a pretty sorry week. Left leg, while a little sore, held up ok too.

Today's a rest day before Sunday morning's trail run. It's supposed to be a hot one this weekend!
